{"}{\'{\I}}ndice de Vegeta{\c{c}}{\~a}o{"} (IV) permite o

TM-LANDSAT e HRV-SPOT. Este estudo foi desenvolvido na {\'a}rea
urbana do munic{\'{\i}}pio de Taubat{\'e} localizado no estado
e infravermelho pr{\'o}ximo e infravermelho m{\'e}dio.
apresentam diferentes caracter{\'{\i}}sticas espaciais e
rela{\c{c}}{\~a}o as {\'a}reas constru{\'{\i}}das permitindo
setores residenciais urbanos. ABSTRACT: The intense and
disorganized urbanization in most of Brazilian cities has been
causing a process of degradation of natural urban environment
where the presence of the vegetation element is getting scarce.
The qualitatively and quantitatively balance of {"}green urban
spaces{"} is a basic information to do adequate planning in order
to improve the quality of urban environment. A special
transformation realized with orbital data, namely the
{"}Vegetation Index{"}(VI) allows the qualitative and quantitative
study of urban vegetation. The purpose of this work is to realize
a comparative analysis of the Normalized Difference Vegetation
Index (NDVI) in urban areas obtained from TM-Landsat and HRV-SPOT
data. This study was developed in the urban area of the
municipality of Taubate located in the Paraiba Valley, Sao Paulo
state. The calculation of the VI was done from orbital data from
sensors TM-Landsat and HRV-SPOT in the red, near-infrared and
middle-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The
aerial photography helped to obtain ground information and to
measure the vegetal cover percentage, founded in the different
urban land use. In the results it was found that: the NDVI
calculated by TM-Landsat and HRV-SPOT data, with its different
spatial and spectral characteristics allowed to obtain distinct
classification associated urban use and vegetal cover; a good
relationship was found between the NDVI from both orbital data and
the vegetal cover percentage. It was possible to conclude that the
VI turned out to be a good estimator of green areas in comparison
with the built up areas permitting a global view of vegetal cover
spatial distribution and density. In a qualitative analysis the
NDVI has shown to be a good indicator of the residential sector
quality of life.",
